ON BEING TOO MUCH… OR NOT ENOUGH
with Sarah French
October 3 to 5, 2025
Who says we are too much or not enough?
Have you ever wondered what it truly means to let go of expectations, express yourself fully, and find joy in the present moment?
Clowning gives us permission to be who we are and also who we’re not supposed to be, allowing us to try on “too much” or “not enough” without being confined by either.
Clowning is much more than red noses and laughter – it’s about exploring our authentic selves, embracing vulnerability, and sharing it with others.
By being curious, experimental, and imperfect, we exist more fully—sometimes excessively, sometimes lacking, but always authentically human.
No prerequisites. Experienced and beginners welcome.
The group is limited to 10
Facilitator:
Sarah French
For as long as she remembers, Sarah has been interested in how people play. She was a practicing psychotherapist when she stumbled into the paradoxical world of Clown, which set her on a very enlivening path, despite her hesitations and fears. She has collaborated with Vivian Gladwell of Nose to Nose, since 2012. Sarah considers that she has many teachers, including the spinner dolphins of Hawaii, who are the clowns of the sea. In 2015, Sarah created OOFA to share and promote discoveries with larger communities.
OOFA offers clowning workshops and creativity labs, and makes books & games that are playful, if not also practical (Put on a Hat Made of Light, The Book of Greetings, The Dance of Pants and Other Dances, Party of Animals…).
Sarah sees Clown as a chance to encounter the poetry of our humanity. Clown is not therapy, yet it offers a safe space to encounter ourselves authentically, with openness, curiosity & wonder. Not to mention joy!
In 2021, Sarah moved to Ghent, NY, and started Fool Tree, a center for the playful arts, where she continues to facilitate clowning workshops and community events.
*Sarah also gives private healing sessions to support individuals on their pathways to wholeness.
